Building your BA Toolkit
There's lots of good ways to conduct Business Analysis. Some approaches within an organization may be less than optimal and require supplementation and augmentation, and others are well positioned to bridge business –technical communication boundaries. Trying to create a "one size fits all" approach often results in cultural resistance. In this presentation, we will focus on how to build a practical Business Analysis toolkit with complementary tools and techniques which promote better business analysis.
• Understand the "essence" of business analysis • Learn how to build a palette of tools and techniques which support business analysis • Understand how to choose which tools and techniques to use on any given project.

Presenting Requirements in a Consistent and Cohesive Manner
Business requirements? User requirements? Functional requirements? Functional specifications? What should different types of requirements be called? How should requirements be categorized and why? Categories are used inconsistently in most organizations and sometimes even within an individual project team. It is important that Business Analysts decide on consistent groupings of requirements based on sound rationale. Part of the difficulty is that the word requirement is used inconsistently among project managers, business analysts and all project stakeholders. Before we can really improve the way we elicit, analyze, document and use requirements we need to have a common understanding of what requirements are and how they are best represented. This is not a simple or straightforward goal.
