The Secret to Deriving PMO Value: Aligning Your PMO Efforts and Governance Structure

In the Spring of 2003, TCH's IS group took a bold step. Under a new CIO, they stopped work – completely. It was clear to this new CIO that in order to successfully derive value from their PMO going forward, they must first formally align the efforts of their PMO with their organization's governance structure. So, work ceased and an all out effort began to correct the process by building the PMO from the bottom up and the governance structure from the top down. This unique approach would result in a standard work approach that would ensure the long-term success of the TCH PMO.

Avoiding the Risks of Risk Management

For years, project managers have been taught to identify, quantify and develop strategies for dealing with risks, yet risk management continues to be one of the weakest areas of project management. In today's challenging project environment, how can project managers manage risks effectively?

This session will define a process for extending the PMBoK risk management framework and integrating risk management into the project plan to provide real, proactive and ongoing management and tracking of risks, and will address ways to present your risk plan to management and customers as well as ways to get your team involved in the risk management process.
