Abbie Lundberg The Hottest Jobs in IT

In CIO Magazine's 2006 State of the CIO research, project management was identified by over 500 CIOs as the skill set most in demand. And the greatest barriers to CIOs' ability to be effective were 1) an overwhelming backlog of projects and 2) unrealistic or unknown expectations from the business. Clearly, both project managers and business analysts are in the sweet spot when it comes to ITstaffing. So why all the angst? For one thing, between outsourcing and retirement of experienced project managers and business analysts, many companies have failed to maintain those core capabilities. For another, these jobs have never been more fraught with peril. As technology becomes more pervasive and complex, PMs and BAs face organizational, legal and even ethical issues that 10 years ago were not a part of the job description. We'll discuss the latest trends and provide a new view of what it takes to define and deliver IT functionality in today's changing organizations.
