Portal technology has changed dramatically during the ten years I have been chairing this event. During this time period, portals have evolved from simply replacing intranets to embracing all aspects of enterprise computing for delivering and sharing business content both inside and outside organizations. To reflect the important role portals now play in the enterprise, the IIR Portals, Collaboration and Content conference has been renamed to Enterprise3.

Enterprise3 combines best practices and case studies with expertise in Web, portal, content, and collaboration technologies to help business users, technology managers, and IT staff exploit the latest innovations in business collaboration and information management for business benefit.

The objectives of Enterprise3 are to enable companies to improve productivity, reduce costs, and become more competitive by providing business users, employees, partners and customers with the easy-to-use applications and interfaces they need to access and share business information and expertise, and collaborate about all aspects of their jobs.

As it has in the past ten years, this event will continue to bring you the best in-depth information in the industry on portal-related techniques and technologies. The new name and format of the conference, however, allows us to grow the conference to support not only IT users, but also the business users who vitally need the information portals provide to make effective decisions and compete effectively.

These changes also enable us to take a more detailed look at the impact of Web 2.0 on all aspects of enterprise computing.
