It is estimated that out of 20% of adults who are eligible for oncology clinical trials, only 3-5% of adults diagnosed with cancer actually participate in them. This lack of patient participation adversely affects drug development timelines and prolongs trials. This workshop analyses the patient accrual issue and offers practical suggestions for how to mitigate the burden of enrolling patients in your clinical trial. Topics to be addressed include:

Using the Internet to Help Run a Clinical Study and Recruit Patients

This workshop will engage participants in a discussion about the current and future use of the Internet and Web-based applications for clinical trial patient recruitment and management. Topics will include:

  • Leveraging the advent and adoption of EMR technology to accelerate the recruitment of qualified patients
  • Understanding the advantages of organic over sponsored search results

  • Understanding the connections between type of cancer, stage of diagnosis, and Internet use.
