A. Practical Tools for Lean Product Development This workshop presents a set of leading-edge, practical tools for slashing waste and increasing speed and efficiency for any product development process. The practical and proven "lean methods" described in this course enable dramatic reductions in time-to-market while freeing up valuable resources for additional development work. Firms that have embraced these practical, waste-eliminating tools have reported up to 50 percent reduction in launch schedules, dramatic improvements in gross margin, and enhanced customer satisfaction. The material is based on the newly published The Lean Product Development Guidebook, by Ronald Mascitelli, and is presented by the author. Workshop Objectives:

B. First Steps with the Toyota Development System: How to Begin Using Toyota's Methods to Eliminate Waste in Your Product Development Teams All New Product Development teams must improve performance in the current business climate of scarce resources, changing customer preferences and cost constraints. Yet Toyota and a few other companies have the ability to transcend those barriers – consistently delivering better products fast, with fewer resources. This workshop takes the participants through the elements of the Toyota Development System. We will describe the practices that Toyota and other lean companies use in their own product development processes. We will dive into one component that any person can use to become more effective whether or not the rest of the organization is lean: nemawashi or Management by Proposal. Management by Proposal is a tool for decision-making that eliminates the wastes of reinvention, unproductive meetings and revisited decisions. Workshop Objectives:
