To all of those who made
GAIM Ops Cayman 2014
a resounding success, thank you.
Over the course of three days, 550 managers, allocators and industry information providers gathered to analyze, debate and discuss the most pressing challenges defining hedge fund operations and compliance.
Some of the takeaways from the sessions, roundtables and keynotes:
The Future of Cayman. 80% of the audience voted that, in ten years, Cayman will remain the largest offshore jurisdiction.
The JOBS Act. Verifying investor accreditation gives pause to those considering the new opportunity.
The FOF model. While the Fund of Funds model continues to face significant challenges, the inevitable move into active management presents a significant opportunity.
New Regulation. CIMA guidance is the most welcome new piece of regulation. Not surprisingly, AIFMD was voted the least.
Directors. What's the real job of a director? The answer to this will continue to change over the next year as some regulations settle.
Outsourcing. The audience predicted that outsourced boards and outsourced ODD will have the biggest impact on the industry in the year ahead.
Regulatory Focus. The FBI will be looking at the following in the year ahead: high frequency trading, political intelligence experts, JOBS Act implementation, social media / chat rooms.
