The Second City has been performing sketch comedy in front of audiences for nearly 50 years, making it the standard by which comedy and improv in America is judged. Past alumni include legendary talents such as John Belushi, Gilda Radner, Dan Aykroyd, John Candy, Mike Myers, Chris Farley, Tina Fey, Steve Carrell and Stephen Colbert.

As thanks for participating in the Family Office Forum, we are pleased to present an exclusive, private performance from Second City Communications, incorporating the best material from The Second City’s nearly 50-years of theatrical history. The revue includes hilarious sketches and improvisation based off of the audience’s suggestions.

MATING ACTIVISM AND PHILANTHROPY TO CHANGE LIVES

Mr. Milliken is one of the nation's foremost pioneers in the movement to give young people the help they need to graduate from high school and go on to rewarding careers. A winner of The Edward A. Smith Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Leadership and the "Champion for Children" award from the American Association of School Administrators (AASA), Mr. Milliken has been recognized as an individual whose contributions have significantly and positively influenced the lives of children.

Communities In Schools is the nation's leading community-based organization helping kids stay in school and prepare for life. CIS currently provides access to services for 2 million students and their families each year in nearly 3,000 schools in 28 states.

Mr. Milliken's activism began in 1960 when he joined Young Life, an ecumenical youth organization, where he helped initiate "street academies" for young people who had dropped out of school and wanted a chance to resume their education, as well as live-in programs for substance abusers and youth in need of shelter and support.

Milliken serves on the board of Leadership Foundations of America. He is the author of three books, , The Last Dropout, So Long, Sweet Jesus, and Tough Love.

11:10 CLOSING KEYNOTE: EVALUATING INVESTMENT STRATEGIES FOR MAKING NEXT-GENERATION INVESTMENTS ON BEHALF OF THE FAMILY

In 2006, Laird Norton sold its largest operating division (Lanoga Corporation), which created new liquidity for the family. Through its board of directors, the family evaluated numerous investment strategies for making “next-generation” investments on behalf of both the company and the family. In this session, you’ll hear how Laird Norton set up their family office, evaluated their options, and eventually devised their strategy focusing on making direct private equity investments.
