Tuesday 9:15: “Accelerating Technologies and Our Radical Future”
The change in technology we’ve seen in the last 10 years will pale in comparison to what’s coming over the next
10. Looking ahead to 2021, how will disruptive technologies change healthcare, pharma, and the nature of our work in digital marketing? Welcome to the era of exponential technologies. Welcome to our radical future.
Bob Harrell, Director of Integrated Marketing, Shire Pharmaceuticals
Daniel Kraft, MD Chair of Medicine Track and FutureMed Program, Singularity University
Jonathan Richman Tuesday 9:45: “Paging Doctor PC: Your Search Results are In”
We spend hundreds of millions of dollars each day on research, as we struggle to rid the world of conditions such as cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. While big scientific advances dominate the headlines, it’s the small improvements and better utilization of the technology we have now that ultimately lengthens our lives and improve its quality. Instead of waiting for the next miracle drug to be developed, you might find the miracle was there all along right inside the computer you use every day.
Jonathan Richman, Director of Social Media, Possible Worldwide
Dr. James Fowler Wednesday 8:45:“CONNECTED: The Power of Social Networks on Life Sciences and Health”
Based on his bestselling book, Connected, Dr. Fowler reveals the dynamics of social networks and presents compelling evidence for our profound influence on one another’s tastes, health, wealth, happiness, beliefs, even weight, as he explains how social networks shape our lives. In particular, he focuses on the latest research on the spread of flu, vaccination, and doctors’ prescribing behavior. He then applies knowledge about real world social networks to the online world, showing what spreads, what doesn’t, and why.
Dr. James Fowler, PhD, Best Selling Author, Professor in the School of Medicine and the Division of Social Sciences at the University of California, San Diego
Peter Pitts Wednesday 10:30 “What Does Pharma Want from DDMAC?”
A great many will say “regulation”. Unfortunately, “We need more regulation” just doesn’t cut it. Since there is no direct “ask” from industry, it’s impossible to expect the FDA to offer direct guidance. More regulation? Be careful, that may be precisely what you get. With absent details from November’s Part 15 hearing- what are the odds, that DDMAC will deliver some kind of solution? If industry is expecting to go forward with the blessing of the FDA to participate in social media, well, there had better be a Plan B. Where there’s a will there’s a way.
Peter Pitts, President, Center for Medicine in the Public Interest, Partner/Director Global Regulatory Policy & Health Policy, Porter Novelli, Former Associate Commissioner, FDA
