Welcome to EAC! The EA discipline continues to evolve as more and more executives, practitioners, and yes, business-side leaders begin to appreciate its strengths. As they do, how should we respond? Should we converge to a narrower focus and do EA really well driving things like SOA, or should we diverge and connect EA into the other companion management disciplines of both the business and IT organizations by engaging in portfolio management, governance and strategy activities? We'll kick-off this EAC by exploring the likely role that EA will occupy in the future of our enterprise.
Strong leaders build powerful EA programs. Good architects can build good architecture but it takes good leadership to "apply" EA to your organization in a way that delivers business value. Architects spend the majority of their self-improvement time focused on frameworks, modeling techniques, SOA, and technologies; but at the end of the day, it is driving organizational change that adds value. And the only way to drive change is to lead. This session will introduce you to 12 critical leadership concepts for EA success and provide you with a 90 day plan ton jumpstart your leadership journey. We will clarify the difference between management and leadership, explain why innovation isn't about technology, and demonstrate how leadership drives value. Key Issues
Although the ideas about Enterprise Architecture have been acknowledged for many years, 36 years of which I can personally attest, there still remains a lack of common understanding as to what exactly constitutes "Enterprise Architecture." The re-launch of the Zachman Framework as Zachman Enterprise Framework2 ™ marks the establishment of the definition for Enterprise Architecture that is consistent with my original proposition that the concept of Enterprise Architecture goes far beyond the present information systems (or, information technology) paradigm. The end object is to engineer and manufacture the ENTERPRISE not simply to build and run systems. In that regard, Architecture is Architecture is Architecture and the re-launch as Zachman Enterprise Framework2 ™ reiterates and reinforces this ENTERPRISE Architecture orientation. Key Issues
EA is morphing into some new and exciting directions. With the advent of new concepts such as Web 2.0 and SOA, we have new opportunities to modernize our enterprise, and better align IT with business. However, there is much to be learned, and some of the existing approaches will have to change. So, how do you go about it? In this presentation I'll take you through the softer concepts of preparing for this shift, including: Having a better understanding of your own IT needs, understanding the real value beyond the SOA hype, understanding what changes need to take place, and planning for those changes including altering the skill sets, and the technology employed. Moreover, I'll provide you with a step-by-step proven approach for aligning your organization and EA, with both the emerging needs of the business and embracing best-ofbreed emerging technology and concepts. Why are business leaders around the globe all asking their organizations to be more innovative? The answer is a need for growth, with growth rates greater than the traditional organic growth that was acceptable just a few years ago. Just as many architecture teams are starting to see real success in the organizing efforts of their enterprise architecture initiatives, the call for innovation is often seen as an invitation for even more disruptive challenges from within the corporation. This session will describe their efforts to harness enterprise architecture, information technology and innovation to address their quest for growth. Key Issues
