Breaking all previous attendance records with 304 senior-level attendees, IIR's 15th Annual Anti-Money Laundering Audit and Compliance Forum reaffirmed itself as the premier US AML conference. Held September 26-29, 2005 at New York's Marriott Marquis, more than 80 senior-level speakers provided insight, opinions and best practices through more than 25 sessions focusing on AML issues currently facing financial institutions, regulators, enforcement agencies, and insurance companies.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THIS YEAR'S PROGRAM:
Lively, interactive panel discussions
Betty Santangelo, conference co-chair and Partner, Schulte, Roth, & Zabel, led an informative panel discussion updating and addressing the impact of legal and regulatory issues on AML. Meanwhile, Morgan Stanley's Tim O'Neal Lorah deftly moderated a lively interactive session on identifying when to file SARs. And Linda Busby, Anti-Money Laundering Officer, Raymond James Financial, led a panel focusing on understanding the role of clearing firms in complying with AML regulations.
Expert insights
Consultants Ken Bryant and Dennis Lormel provided needed insight into the need to combat terrorism financing both at home and abroad. Thomas D. Fleming, FinCEN's Compliance Program Manager, provided an overview on meeting the challenges of the Patriot Act. And Ellen Zimiles, principal, KPMG, shared insights on compiling comprehensive and complete data for use in annual AML program audits.
Keynote Presentations
Keynote presentations from Brian L. Ferrell, Chief Counsel, FinCEN; and Robert Werner, Director, Office of Foreign Assets Control; each provided updates and commentary on the activities and policies each agency is undertaking to help combat money laundering activity.
Learning and Training at AMLAC
The conference kicked off with two workshop sessions designed to provide hands-on best practices for AML professionals. The morning workshop focused on strategies and best practices on the actions to take when your firm is being investigated, which was led by David Caruso, CEO of The Dominion Advisory Group; Michael Shepard, Sr. VP and Anti-Money Laundering Program Director, Commerce Bank; and Steven J. Helmstetter, Special Agent, Internal Revenue Service.
The afternoon workshop was led by Lauren Pickett of Citibank and Stephanie Lawrence of Nationwide Mutual Insurance, and focused on methods for developing an effective AML training program.
AML Around the Globe
The AMLAC Forum concluded with an in-depth Summit focusing on AML activity around the globe. Moderated by Julie Copeland, First Vice President and Director of Global Compliance at Merrill Lynch, the summit addressed global AML standards in the Caribbean, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East.
